Mile High Fishing FAQs
Get honest answers about trips, licenses, gear, weather, and what to expect before you book.
Do I need a deposit?
We collect your credit card when you reserve a trip, but we don’t charge anything upfront. A hold is placed on your card 10 days before your trip, and you pay in full on the day of the charter.
What’s your cancellation policy?
If you cancel between 14 days and 72 hours before the trip, you’ll be charged 50% of the total cost. Cancellations within 72 hours are non-refundable. Gift certificates and prepaid trips are final sale.
What if I’m late for my trip?
Please call the number in your confirmation email if you’re running late. We’ll hold the boat up to 30 minutes when possible, but departure times are tight—especially during peak season.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major domestic credit cards, cash, and money orders. Tips for the crew are appreciated and can be made in cash or via app by request.
Where do we park, and is it free?
Yes, parking is free. We operate out of Tahoe Keys Marina, and designated parking is available near our office.
What should I bring on my fishing trip?
Bring layered clothing (mornings can be chilly), sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and any drinks or snacks you want. We provide all fishing gear, bait, tackle, safety equipment, and your fishing license.
Are fishing licenses included?
Fishing licenses are not included. All anglers aged 16 and older are required by law to have a valid California fishing license before boarding the boat. We recommend purchasing your license online in advance or stopping by a local tackle shop in South Lake Tahoe. If you have any questions about what you need, just ask—we’re happy to help.
Do you provide food or drinks?
No, we don’t supply food or beverages, so feel free to bring your own snacks, water, or lunch. Alcohol is allowed in moderation—just no glass bottles.
Will you clean our catch?
Yes. We field dress, rinse, and bag your catch. Ask us about local restaurants that will cook it for you, or get tips on the best way to prepare your fish at home.
What species can we catch on Lake Tahoe?
Depending on the season, you’ll target Mackinaw (Lake Trout), Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Kokanee Salmon. Your captain will always aim to put you on the best bite.
Do you fish year-round?
We fish Lake Tahoe year-round. Winter is great for deep-water Mackinaw, while spring and fall offer more variety. Summer brings calmer weather and more flexible trip times.
Are kids allowed on the boat?
Yes—kids are always welcome. We provide life jackets and make family trips fun and safe. Let us know if you have younger kids so we can tailor the trip to their needs.
Can I bring my own gear?
Sure! You’re welcome to bring your own rod or tackle. Our gear is top-quality, but we know some anglers like to bring their lucky setup.
Can I bring a drone or GoPro?
Yes, but please be respectful and safe. Lake Tahoe is stunning from above, and we welcome all types of photography. Just be an experienced drone pilot and follow FAA rules.
Do you provide fish mounting or taxidermy services?
We don’t do mounts directly, but we can point you to local taxidermists if you land a fish worthy of the wall.
Do you fish streams or rivers too?
Our charters focus on Lake Tahoe, but we’re happy to give recommendations for local stream or river fishing in the area.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. Gift certificates are available for any trip type and make great presents. Just note they’re final sale and non-refundable.
Can you help with lodging or local recommendations?
Absolutely. We’ve lived here most of our lives and can offer advice on lodging, dining, and other things to do in South Lake Tahoe.
