About us

My name’s Joby Cefalu. I run Mile High Fishing Charters with my wife, Laura. We were both born and raised here in South Lake Tahoe. I started this business in 1997, and we’ve been running fishing trips on this lake ever since.

We keep it small—no more than six people per boat. No crowds, no noise. Just time on the water with someone who knows the lake and actually gives a damn. Captain Justin Cain runs with us too. He’s another Tahoe local who knows how to treat people right and fish hard.

All of our guides are U.S. Coast Guard-licensed Master Captains, certified to operate in both California and Nevada. Every trip meets the highest standards for safety and professionalism.

We fish year-round and adjust with the seasons. Conditions change—so do our tactics. You’re not just getting a trip; you’re fishing with locals who know this lake and take the work seriously.

We run two Kingfisher boats built for Lake Tahoe. They’ve got heated cabins for cold mornings, solid sonar, and reliable Mercury outboards that get us where we need to be.

We’re not running tours. We’re guides. This is our work, our lake, and our gear. You book directly with us, and you fish with us. Simple as that.
