Family Fishing Charters
2.5-hour guided family trips on Lake Tahoe from 4–6:30 PM—an affordable, relaxed way to experience Tahoe fishing together.
Looking for a shorter, family-friendly fishing trip on Lake Tahoe? Our new Family Charters run from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM and are designed specifically for families and small groups who want to experience fishing without committing to a full half-day on the water. These trips offer a fun, hands-on introduction to Tahoe fishing in a relaxed evening window.
Starting March 1, Family Charters provide a more affordable option than our standard trips while still delivering a fully guided experience with professional equipment and expert instruction. Whether you’re bringing young kids, visiting from out of town, or just want a shorter outing, this trip keeps it simple and productive.
Time to fishing grounds
We typically reach our fishing grounds within 5 to 45 minutes of departure, depending on current conditions and seasonal fish movement. The 4 PM departure often lines up with improving evening bite windows, especially during the warmer months.
- Mackinaw (Lake Trout)
- Rainbow Trout
- Brown Trout
- Kokanee Salmon (in season, July–September)
Techniques vary by season and fish activity. We use light tackle methods such as trolling and jigging, keeping the action steady and appropriate for beginners while still targeting quality fish.
All trips are led by full-time Lake Tahoe captains with extensive local knowledge. We provide premium tackle from Daiwa and Abu Garcia along with custom rods matched to conditions, so families can focus on learning, fishing, and enjoying the experience.
You’ll fish aboard our custom KingFisher boats—stable, spacious, and built for comfort and safety. With room for up to six passengers, we offer both private charters and public/shared charters, giving families flexible booking options.
Late afternoon conditions on Lake Tahoe are often calm and scenic, though weather can shift quickly. Light layers are recommended.
If you’re looking for an affordable, shorter fishing trip in Lake Tahoe that’s perfect for families and first-timers, our 2.5-hour Family Charter is a practical and enjoyable way to get on the water. Trips begin March 1 and are open to all ages.
Family Fishing FAQs
Is a fishing license required?
All individuals aged 16 and older are required to possess a fishing license for either California or Nevada. Upon request, we can provide you with a link to purchase one online or assist you in obtaining it at our office.
When should guests arrive at the marina?
As you walk down to the boat about 10 minutes before departure, please note that while both our boats have onboard bathroom facilities, a quick bathroom stop is always a good idea.
How long to reach the fishing grounds?
It can take 5-45 minutes depending on the type of fishing and where the fish are biting. We want you to be successful more than you do. Although long runs take away time in the water we determine based upon experience and fishing daily where the best option for your success will be.
Do you explain how to use the gear?
The first fifteen minutes and throughout the trip we educate and instruct as Tahoe is truly a unique fishery of which we have mastered both technique and the gear we use. You are in good hands with the best on the lake. Proper instructions leads to a much higher catch rate.
Is there a safety brief before departure?
Every trip begins with thorough protocol in the unlikely event of an unexpected emergency. Location of live vests, instructions on how to contact the US Coast Guard if the Captain is unable to. We are licensed Coast Guard Captains with many years of experience and your safety is of our utmost concern.
What are the fish catch limits?
The catch limits for our fishing trips are set at a maximum of five fish per angler, regardless of the species. We also promote catch and release for those who aren’t inclined to keep their catch. We believe in responsible fishing practices and encourage our guests to keep only what they need or desire to help maintain a healthy and sustainable fishery.
What fishing methods do you use?
We are highly skilled in various fishing methods on Lake Tahoe, with over 25 years of experience. One of our most popular approaches is jigging, as it allows anglers to have a hands-on experience from hook to net. Additionally, we are proficient in a range of techniques, including drift fishing, deep-water trolling, and jigging. Our goal is to use these diverse methods to maximize your fishing success and ensure an enjoyable experience for all of our clients.
Do you provide free fish cleaning?
